Volleyball recruiting odds

Women's volleyball is one of the most academic-leaning recruiting environments in college sports — and a sport where club tournament performance (AAU, JVA, USAV Nationals) drives nearly all D1 recruiting.

Scholarships by division

Per-team limits. "Equivalency" sports split the budget across the roster (most offers are partial). "Headcount" sports give full scholarships, but to fewer athletes. Post-House roster caps apply 2025–26.

What this actually means for your athlete

About 1 in 71 HS volleyball players reaches D1. D1 women's VB is a headcount sport — offers are typically full scholarships, but they're rare. The realistic landing for a top-25 club player at most regions is D2 or strong D3. Verified vertical, approach jump, and arm speed matter more than match stats.

Common parent mistakes in volleyball recruiting

  • 1.Treating Open division club status as a D1 guarantee.
  • 2.Skipping verified jump/agility testing — coaches use it as a hard filter.
  • 3.Ignoring middle/right-side positional demand; setters and OHs face the most competition.
  • 4.Recording film from behind the court (no rotation visibility).
